Khan is the founder of Empower People, a civil society organisation working to address trafficking, gender injustice, and vulnerabilities among marginalised communities. Since its establishment, the organisation has focused on strengthening community awareness, building local leadership, and supporting vulnerable populations through advocacy and grassroots initiatives.
Empower People operates across several regions in India, including Haryana, Assam, and Bihar, working with community groups, local institutions and civil society partners to promote preventive approaches to trafficking and strengthen community resilience.
Under Khan's leadership, initiatives focus on
- Preventing bride trafficking and gender-based exploitation
- Supporting migrant workers and vulnerable communities
- Promoting community-based responses to human trafficking
- Encouraging grassroots participation in addressing social injustice

Programmes & partnerships
Empower People runs survivor-facing programmes in partnership with government bodies and international agencies, including CBO formation and organisational development training for bride trafficking survivors, and Project SEAL — a joint initiative with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands focused on social integration, entrepreneurship, assistance and leadership.

Migrant worker advocacy
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Khan and his organisation were actively involved in supporting migrant workers affected by lockdowns and economic disruption — providing humanitarian assistance, connecting stranded workers with support networks, and advocating for greater attention to the challenges facing migrant communities.
This work strengthened his role as a grassroots advocate addressing structural vulnerabilities affecting marginalised populations, and continues today through CEPI Foundation, focused specifically on migrant worker welfare.

Public engagement & policy dialogue
Khan contributes to broader conversations on trafficking, migration, and community-based responses to exploitation, informing discussions within civil society, academic forums, and public dialogues through collaborations with researchers, journalists, and social sector organisations.
